Bio:

Prasant Misra is a Senior Scientist in the Data and Decision Sciences division of TCS Research. He also serves as Visiting Faculty in the Department of Cyber-Physical Systems at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, in 2012, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at RISE SICS Stockholm (formerly the Swedish Institute of Computer Science) in 2013.

His work broadly lies at the intersection of mobility, energy, and intelligent systems. His current research is centered around modeling, optimization and decision intelligence for operations management of urban mobility and infrastructure systems. His earlier research in computational informatics focused on the design of energy-efficient sensing and information processing techniques for low-power networked embedded systems.

He has authored several publications, patents, position papers, and editorials spanning cyber-physical systems (CPS), Internet of Things (IoT), mobile systems, and electric mobility. He has received numerous honors for his work, including multiple Best Paper & Poster awards. He has been recognized as a Distinguished Contributor (Class of 2025) by the IEEE Computer Society. In 2017, he was named among MIT Technology Review’s TR35 India - Top 10 Innovators Under 35 and received the TCS Exemplary Contribution Award. Beyond research, Prasant actively contributes to the broader scientific and professional community through his involvement with a wide range of academic, industry, and government bodies. He has served on the committees of leading professional organizations such as IEEE, ACM, and COMSNETS Association. He plays an active advisory role in public technology policy and capacity-building initiatives for Government of India agencies like MeitY. He has contributed to standards development on Smart Cities and Infrastructure for the Bureau of Indian Standard (2016 - 2018). On the editorial front, he currently serves as Area Editor for Elsevier’s Ad Hoc Networks Journal and Associate Editor for the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine. He previously served as Series Editor - IoT for the IEEE Communications Magazine (2019 - 2022). He has also held key leadership roles, including Founding Chair of the India Chapter of ACM SIGMOBILE (2019 -2020), and Chair of the Bangalore Chapter of IEEE Computer Society (2022 - 2023) during which the chapter received the IEEE Computer Society’s global Outstanding Chapter Award 2023. He currently serves as the 2026 Chair of the IEEE Bangalore Section. He is a senior member of IEEE and ACM.
